The Tao of Jim
   Thoughts and Stuff

Ok...this sucks.

How am I s'posed to write about my weekend when my wife does so eloquently before I can? Well I guess I can write about my laptop adventures.

So as most of you know my laptop was stolen out of my truck a few weeks ago. It was replaced by our insurance company last week. So I went to fry's and purchased a new Sony laptop. It was very cool...but the hard drive started acting weird after a couple days...Soooo, of to Fry's I went. I had the service dept check out the Sony and I went to shop for a new laptop, cause I did not want to wait for Sony to fix the old one. I found a very cool 16” Compaq within my price range, so I just exchanged the Sony for the Compaq.

I got the Compaq how start to install Windows XP Professional. All of the sudden the laptop started rebooting! So I called Compaq, they informed me they do not support upgrades...Then he gave me a little hint as to why the laptop was rebooting...apparently this laptop's video card did not support XP Pro...

Soooo....Back to Fry's i go. I was growing weary of the whole situation. I returned the Compaq and looked for a new laptop again. Unfortunately i could not just get my money back because we paid by check and they would have had to send a check out for the refund(Which takes 10 days...not an option). So i looked around fry's for about two hours...trying to make a decision. For the first time in my life i could not decide what to buy...it was an odd feeling. Finally i decided on a nice HP laptop.

I got home, installed all the necessary software and went to bed. The next morning I went to work as usual and the laptop worked great...UNTIL I unplugged it to use the battery...it died when I unplugged it. The battery was not charging...another defective laptop.

Soooooo...Over the weekend we shopped around resigned to fact that I was gonna have to wait for the refund check from Fry's. On Saturday night i made one final visit to Fry's (the other one in Tempe) just to see if they had something different. I am so glad we did. I found the perfect laptop.

1) It works.
2) It was the right price.
3) i did not have to wait for a refund check.

So it all worked out. Not sure if there is a moral to the story. I guess it would be: Don't give up or something.
