In attempt to keep the server up I have performed some longĀ over do maintenance on the database. As a few of you have noted to me, we are getting thousands of spam comments on our blogs. Tonight I wrote a script to delete those.
There may have been a few unintended deletions in the comments. Sorry...But the server should be much more performant now. I will run this script periodically to cleanup the DB. Here is the algorithm is used: if the parent post had more then 50 comments and the comment was posted more then 30 days after the parent it was deleted. Also another great thing you we can do to help the server stay healthy is host our images elsewhere. Images are a bandwidth hog. I recommend google images, if you have a gmail account this is built in. Also Flicker is another great service.
